Prioritising Applications

Homechoice uses a banding system to prioritise applications.

All housing applications received will be assessed and placed in one of the 5 bands, Emergency and Bands A to D. The table below sets out the banding system and gives some examples of those applicants who would be eligible to be placed in each band.

If your circumstances change, we will need to be notified as soon as this happens as your banding is likely to be affected. A home visit may be required in order for your assessment to be completed if necessary.

 Band  Criteria

Examples - below are listed examples of some of the details we look into when assessing your Homechoice application

Emergency Emergency and accepted homeless Homeless households who are owed housing duty following a Homelessness application.
Band A Urgent need Severe medical, welfare or disability. Lacking essential facilities. Freeing up a place in a specialist hostel.
Band B Moderate need Sharing facilities. Less medical, welfare or disability than band A. Priority need and received a notice to quit. Applicants with a rented property that has been assessed as being in a bad state of repair.
Band C General need A need to move on medical, welfare or disability grounds which is less priority than Band A or B. Applicants with children over 5 that are of different gender sharing a bedroom.
